My Last Arby's Nightshift

I worked there part-time for a little over two years. During that time I've had to deal with my fair share of bullshit. However, none of it was as bad as what happened on my final shift. For the first year of my job, I had worked the day shift. That changed when my boss asked me if I wanted to try working at night. Since I was low on funds and admittedly curious about what it was like, I agreed. For the most part, it was a pain in the ass. I'd have to work off the clock because there wasn't enough time to do everything. The only silver lining is that I got to take home the food that was going to be tossed. Plus I didn't have to deal with customers aside from the occasional one who would show up right before closing. I will say it was an environment that could be pretty chill sometimes. When I got into a rhythm of finishing my tasks it could be quite cathartic on occasion. Although, the fact I was only getting paid minimum wage took away from that aspect. Not to mention...

The Cruise

Something happened to me six months ago that I need to get off my chest. You see I used to be a fisherman of sorts. I didn't do it for a living. It was more for recreation than anything else. After what else I saw, however, I won't go back out to sea for as long as possible. It began like all my other trips. I got in my boat and rode it towards my usual spot. There, I could fish uninterrupted without hearing the obnoxious sound of teenagers on boats. Not to mention, other fishermen or those yuppie assholes on their yachts. Anyway, it wasn't long into my trip when the weather started changing. It looked as though a storm was brewing up. Obviously, this worried me. I always made sure to check the weather before heading out. It said absolutely nothing about a storm in the area. Realizing this, I proceeded to head back to shore. Unfortunately, fate had other plans. "God damn it,” I said to myself while attempting to steer the boat towards the shore. As I did a huge wave ki...

The Motel

I’ve slept in some shitty places but goddamn this one was by far the worst. It was two years ago. I was driving across states so that I could attend my cousin’s wedding. I had been on the road for twelve hours, only stopping every four or so when I needed to use the bathroom, grab a bite to eat, or just stretch my legs. Against my better judgment, I decided to attempt driving through the night. By about I’d say hour twenty I came to regret my decision as my eyelids began feeling heavy. I groaned at my stupidity and the fact there wasn’t a place around me I could stop at or so I thought. While going up a hill I saw it slowly come into view. It was almost as if it was appearing out of thin air. It read “Mike’s Motel”. Relieved that I had found a place to sleep, I pulled into the parking lot. Once parked, I got out of my car and went inside. Instantly the smell of must invaded my nostrils. Under most other circumstances I would have left. However, I figured beggars couldn’t be choose...

An Apology

To whom it may concern. I am writing this as an apology on behalf of my species to yours. Depending on when you are reading this we are either gone or long gone. If you are reading this I can only assume you have returned to the planet you once called home. Well, the rest of you have I should say. I carved this into a large stone so that it wouldn't fade quickly. Even though it is not in your language with how advanced you are compared to us you should be able to decipher it. I apologize in advance for any rubble you had to clean to uncover it. In addition to that, I also apologize for the other messes we left behind. Hopefully, there are still some land animals left despite our rampage. If not then I guess the ones wherever you are from, have a new home. I know by now you've already looked at countless ruined buildings and mummified corpses and asked yourselves, "What did they do?". It was caused largely due to our own greed I'm afraid. We found those crystals y...
